The Undergraduate Local Government Case Competition provides teams of students the opportunity to review an issue impacting a community, assess proposed solutions to that issue, and present their findings and arguments to a panel of local government leaders. Interested students can create their own teams and register, or sign up as an individual to be put on a team. In the weeks leading up to the competition, and on the competition day itself, students have the chance to:
- Build competencies in reviewing written cases that are typical in graduate-level coursework
- Gain career advice directly from permanent staff and elected leaders from local municipalities
- Increase comfort and skill in public speaking
- Get more comfortable incorporating critical feedback into their work
- Practice thinking, reacting, and navigating questions on the fly
On competition day, student attendees will start the day with a keynote speaker and career panel composed of local government leaders, offering their insight into the field and sharing advice with students looking into careers in local government.
